A Statement of Diversity and Inclusion
for Park Ridge Presbyterian Church
Approved by the Congregation
of Park Ridge Presbyterian Church
on Sunday, August 22, 2021
“For in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith. As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is no longer Jew or Gentile, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female;
for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:26-28
The congregation of Park Ridge Presbyterian Church, Park Ridge, IL (PRPC) affirms the worth and dignity of all people. All people carry God’s image in them and are the children of God. Just as Jesus welcomed everyone into Jesus’ fellowship, especially those who traditionally had been marginalized, we welcome all people to our congregation regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, physical or mental ability, income, or political beliefs. The congregation of PRPC is committed to doing our best to provide a safe place for all people to explore how the Christian faith can help make a difference for them every day.
The leadership of PRPC seeks to foster a faithfully diverse, equitable, inclusive, and compassionate community. We believe being part of an inclusive and diverse congregation helps us to be more faithful as individuals and as a group of people. We condemn all forms of hate, racism, and prejudice that keep people from experiencing the gift of community and hold people back from experiencing the life God wants for them.
Therefore, PRPC affirms the following:
- People of all races, ethnicities, genders, ages, sexual orientations, gender identities, physical or mental abilities, income, or political beliefs are welcome to share in the life and ministry of PRPC and be fully engaged participants in every aspect of our congregation.
- Membership will be extended to all people who wish to become a member of PRPC that profess Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and that will agree to strive to be a faithful member of the congregation.
- PRPC affirms that the covenant of marriage should be extended to any two consenting adults who want to enter a marriage covenant and are legally permitted to do so.
- The sacrament of communion will be provided to all people. The sacrament of baptism will not be withheld on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, physical or mental ability, income, or political beliefs.
